RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada men's tennis team got off to a great start in its first day at the Aggie Invitational at UC Davis this weekend. Five of seven members of the pack won their first singles match, and all four doubles teams advanced to the semifinals.
"Today was a wonderful day with a lot of great matches," said head coach Sylvain Malroux. "We are very proud of the way they competed. It is nice to see them enjoying the challenge."
In the Singles A bracket, Kostya Nesterenko and Julien Evrard each defeated their opponents in straight sets in the round of 32. Upperclassmen Peter O'Donovan and Jonathan Aremon each earned victories in Singles B, as did freshman Jeremy Merville who defeated Tommy Lam of UC Davis 6-3, 6-2 in his first collegiate singles match.
The Wolf Pack was unstoppable in doubles, with each of the four teams winning both matches on the day and advancing to the semifinals. The senior duo of Robert Margitfalvi and Peter O'Donovan was victorious twice in the Doubles A bracket, defeating Simon Solbas and Ross Watson of Pacific 8-6 in the round of 16. The tandem then went on to defeat a duo from Santa Clara by score of 8-5.
Aremon and Evrard also won both of their matches in Doubles A, advancing to the semifinals after defeating Mikus Losbergs and Kasparas Zemaitelis of Sacramento State in a close 8-7 match. Freshman Dylan Levitt paired with Nesterenko and won both of their matches in Doubles B by a score of 8-2. Junior Augustine Delahodde teamed up with Merville to defeat Jacob Lagman and Brian Lee of Saint Marys to advance to the semifinals as well.
