Box Score ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Nevada women's soccer team (1-9-0, 0-2-0 MW) fell at Mountain West foe New Mexico (7-3-0, 2-0-0 MW) in a tight 1-0 match on Sunday afternoon. Nevada goalkeeper Lauryn Horstdaniel recorded eight saves for the Wolf Pack.
The first half of the match began with strong defense by both teams, with no shots going on goal in the first 10 minutes. In the 16th minute, Lauryn Horstdaniel made one of her best saves of the season, covering up a shot that came from a New Mexico corner kick while on the ground.
The 18th minute presented the Pack's best chance to score, as freshman Rachel Gensch was awarded a penalty kick. Her shot skipped just wide of New Mexico's goal, and the game remained tied 0-0. That tie would break five minutes later when New Mexico's Jessie Hix redirected a free kick past Horstdaniel. It proved to be the game-winner for the Lobos.
The second half would not feature any goals being scored, but still lots of offensive production by both squads. The Lobos shot the ball 15 times in the final 45 minutes, but Nevada's defense and Horstdaniel's four second-half saves would preserve the one goal deficit.
Nevada's offense was unable to put any of their shots past goalkeeper Emily Johnson of the Lobos. Gensch led the Pack with three shots, and junior Angel Meriwether recorded two. The Pack finished with seven shots on the afternoon.
Nevada will be home next Friday when it takes on Air Force in Mackay Stadium. Get your tickets for the rest of the Wolf Pack's home games today by calling (775) 348-PACK or visiting NevadaWolfPack.com.
