RENO, Nev. – The Nevada swimming and diving team held its annual Silver and Blue Pentathlon on Saturday at the Lombardi Pool, where Blue edged out the victory over Silver by a score of 56-39. The intrasqaud scrimmage marked the first event of the 2017-18 season for the Wolf Pack.
The day began with the 100-yard freestyle, which sophomore
Andressa Cholodovskis came out on top of. She was followed by juniors
Rebecca Murray and
Caitlyn Richardson, who finished second and third, respectively.
After her win in the opening event of the pentathlon, Cholodovskis responded with her second win of the day, placing first in the 100-yard butterfly. Seniors
Emma Payne and
Jaeger Turner showed their veteran leadership, rounding out the top three swimmers of the event.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Turner completed her second of three top three finishes on the day, winning that event by a narrow margin. Turner's senior counterpart
Kate Hofmeyer finished behind her in second as Cholodovskis finished third in the event.
Nevada also showed its promise in the future as the team was led by its core of young swimmers. Freshman
Lauren Stigler finished the 100-yard breaststroke in second, behind junior
Jamie Reynolds who won the event. Cholodovskis recorded another top three finish on the day, placing third.
The final event was completed with the 100-yard IM in which Cholodovskis came out on top, marking her third win of the day. Once again, Payne and Turner rounded out the top three placings, where they finished second and third, respectively.
Overall, Cholodovskis' total time of 4:54.88 was the best of the meet, winning the overall contest.
Nevada will host its first official event of the 2017-18 campaign on Sept. 30 when the Pack welcomes San Diego State and UC Davis to Lombardi.
