RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada soccer team (1-2-0) will head to Flagstaff, Ariz. this weekend to take on Grand Canyon (1-3-0) and Northern Arizona (2-1-0). The match against Grand Canyon will be played at a neutral venue.
"We look forward to our upcoming games in Arizona this weekend," said head coach Erin Otagaki. "The team has been training with a focused mentality, ready for battle against two quality opponents."
Nevada is coming off back-to-back double overtime matches, getting a win in Reno over Sacramento State and then falling at Portland State in the 103rd minute. The Pack has recorded 41 shots so far this season, with 22 of them going on goal and three finding the back of the net. Analyse Talavera, Mackenzie Robinson and Rachel Gensch each have a goal for Nevada, and forward Rylee Peterson has recorded two of the Pack's assists. Junior Eleanor Small also has an assist on the year.
Goalkeeper Lauryn Horstdaniel currently leads Mountain West goalkeepers averaging 6.33 saves a game, with her 19 total saves ranking as the second-most in the conference. In three matches this season, the junior has recorded 295 minutes with a career-high 103 at Portland State.
Through four games, Grand Canyon has recorded two goals along with 37 shots. Nevada averages a little more than four shots more a game than the Antelopes, who got their first win of the season against Weber State.
The Lumberjacks have recorded four goals through three matches this season, averaging 12.7 shots a game. Nevada averages only one more shot per game than NAU, and has only three more total shots so far on the season. Each team has recorded three assists as well.
