After a strong performance in Santa Clara’s Bronco Invite, Nevada women’s tennis sophomore Anastaysha Gorbacheva was named the Wolf Pack Student Athlete of the Week.
“We are always proud to perform well on the court and Anastaysha has been working really hard to get there,” said head coach Guillaume Tonelli. “She is pushing herself and the team and we are all getting better together every single day. We can’t wait to see how she competes in the spring.”
Gorbacheva went 3-0 in singles over the tournament’s three days. On Friday, Gorbacheva topped San Jose State’s Kristina Baran 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. In the final two days, Gorbacheva didn’t drop a single set, defeating San Francisco’s Amber Del Rosario 6-4, 6-1 and Santa Clara’s Lindsey Pesqueria 6-2, 6-3.
This is Gorbacheva’s first ever Student Athlete of the Week honor, and the first for a member of the women’s tennis team since Claudia Herrero earned it the week of March 9 of this year.
