Sophomore shortstop Lauren Gutierrez has been named the Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the week after her performances in the Nevada Regional of the NISC. The Upland, Calif. native helped the Pack to a 2-2 record in the NISC and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Gutierrez started all four games of the tournament and recorded a .545 batting average going 6-for-11 with a walk drawn and a sac fly. The sophomore tallied an extra base hit, a double to go along with her seven total bases and three runs scored. She was responsible for a 2 RBI single in the game against Mountain West foe, Fresno State to push the Pack to an 8-2 lead, adding insurance runs in the win.
The sophomore also had a clutch double in the third inning to put her on second when Sierra Mello hit a double to bring Gutierrez home, taking back the 2-1 lead over the Loyola Marymount Lions. In the forced if-necessary game, she had a long sac fly in the second inning to help Nevada to a 2-0 lead before falling, 11-6.
