RENO, Nev. – Nevada freshman third baseman Joshua Zamora has been named the Bradley, Drendel & Jeanney Student-Athlete of the Week after helping the Wolf Pack to a series sweep of Fresno State this past weekend. The Pack leads the Mountain West with a 17-6 record and are 25-19 overall.
The Foothill Ranch, Calif. native hit .533 with five runs scored, had three RBI, a double and a home run batting leadoff. In all three games he had multiple hits and finished the series with an .880 slugging percentage and .563 on base percentage.
In Friday's 4-2 win over FS he ledoff the seventh inning with a single and scored what proved to be in the winning run to break the 2-2 tie as the Pack won the first game of the series. He was 3-for-5 at the plate.
Saturday he delivered the game winning RBI walk-off hit with two down, as the Pack rallied from an eight-run deficit after two innings by scoring two runs in the ninth to win 12-11. Zamora was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI in the game two victory. One of the hits was his team-leading eighth home run of the season, a two-run blast in the fourth inning that pulled the Pack within a run 9-8 after having trailed 9-1 after two innings.
Sunday he was 2-for-5 with two runs scored as the Pack won by the same score as Saturday 12-11 to complete the MW series sweep.
