Nevada announces contract extension for Skiing head coach Cameron Smith

RENO, Nev. – Nevada Athletics Director Stephanie Rempe has announced a contract extension for Wolf Pack Skiing head coach Cameron Smith. The three-year extension will keep Smith at the helm of the program through 2029.

"Wolf Pack Skiing has made great strides since its reinstatement four seasons ago and Cameron has been instrumental to our recent achievements," Rempe said. "This past season featured the program hitting multiple milestones for the first time since its original run ended in 2010, including qualifying five skiers for the NCAA Championships and Erica Lynch being named our first alpine All-American since 2009. We look forward to Nevada Skiing's continued climb under Cameron's leadership."

Smith will enter his fourth season at the helm of the Nevada Ski program in 2026-27. Each of his past two seasons with the Wolf Pack have seen the program finish in the national top 15 at the national championship meet, most recently coming in 12th in 2026.

"Cameron Smith's tenure as the Wolf Pack's ski team coach has seen the program rise quickly onto the national stage. Cameron's thoughtful leadership for our student-athletes which has included exceptional athlete development, in addition to his deep connection and understanding of the region's skiing community, has meant that Wolf Pack skiing now has a tremendous foundation for future success," said University President Brian Sandoval '86.

The 2026 campaign featured the Wolf Pack qualifying five skiers to the national championships, the program's most since qualifying six in 2010. Erica Lynch would go on to finish seventh in the Slalom at the meet, becoming the first female Wolf Pack alpine All-American since Katie Lyons in 2008. The Wolf Pack also brought back the University of Nevada Invitational at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe in early February, and plan to hold the event once again from February 1-4, 2027.

"I'm incredibly grateful to Stephanie Rempe, President Sandoval and the University of Nevada for their trust and continued support of our program," said Smith. "This extension reflects the hard work and commitment of our student-athletes, assistant coaches, support staff, alumni, and everyone connected to Nevada Skiing. We've made significant progress over the last three years, but we're just getting started. Our goal is to continue competing at the highest level nationally, develop exceptional student-athletes, and build a program that the entire Wolf Pack community can be proud of."

Under Smith's tutelage a total of seven Wolf Pack skiers have qualified for NCAAs eight times. Lynch also earned second-team All-RMISA status in 2026 while finishing the season with 10 top-10s (five each in the Slalom and Giant Slalom) and captured the Wolf Pack's first podium since 2010 when she took third in Giant Slalom at the Utah Invitational in February.

On the men's side, three members of the team qualified for NCAAs in 2026: freshmen Pietro Bisello and Peyton Wells along with sophomore David Morken from nearby Truckee. Bisello would finish 13th in Slalom while Morken topped the group in Giant Slalom with a 16th-place national finish. In 2025, the Wolf Pack qualified two men's skiers in Jeger Halbjoerhus and Iver Walday Naess, the latter also qualifying in 2024.
