TUCSON, Ariz. - Nevada Men's Golf continued play at the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men's Golf Championships, Monday, posting a team total of 285 (-2) to finish the round in ninth place.
Freshman
Monte Chumchaivate led the way for the Wolf Pack in round two, posting a three under-par round of 69. Chumchaivate showed great resilience on the round, following up his two over through eight start with five birdies in his last ten holes. He sits third in the field for par three scoring, playing them in one under-par through 36 holes, he sits at five under-par in 13th place.
Jonathan Kim backed up his solid first round with a second round of two under-par 70. Kim had an up and down day that included five birdies, taking his 36 hole birdie total to 12, the second best in the field. He rattled off three birdies in a row on holes 13 through 15 to cap off a three under-par back nine. Kim sits in 13th place at five under-par.
Riki Matsumoto and
Liam Gobin posted the final two counting scores for the Pack, both posting one over-par 73's. Matsumoto struggled to keep the bogies off the card but maintained his birdie making form in round two, making five on the day. Gobin played a relatively consistent round, bouncing back from a three over through three start making three birdies in the middle portion of the round to ultimately post a 73. Matsumoto sits in 30th at one under-par whilst Gobin sits 35th at even-par.
Rounding out the Pack starting five was senior
Ben Ortwein who posted a three over-par 75 in round two. Ortwein birdied three out of the four par fives but struggled to keep the bogies off the card. Ortwein sits in 45th place at two over-par.
The Pack will return tomorrow for the final round paired with Fresno State and Colorado State.
