SEASIDE, Calif. - Nevada Men's Golf opened play at the final tournament of the fall schedule Monday, opening with an ten over-par 298 to place 17th after round one.
Jonathan Kim and
Monte Chumchaivate led the way for the Wolf Pack in round one, posting two over-par 74's. Kim's round included two birdies and an eagle, with all of those featuring in a back nine 34 (-2). Kim sits in a tie for 62nd after round one.
Monte Chumchaivate tried to bottle his form from last week, not quite having the flair of his play in Stockton, posting a 74 in round one that included 14 pars, saving his best hole for last, eagleing the par-five 18th hole to secure his round. He sits in a tie for 63rd heading into round two.
Next best for the Pack were freshman
Lapassapon Heras-Gomez and
Riki Matsumoto, who both posted opening rounds of three over-par 75's. Heras-Gomez round was highlighted by three birdies, all coming at par fives, offsetting those with four bogies and a double. Matsumoto's round featured just one birdie, coming at the par-five tenth hole. The pair sit in a tie for 80th heading into round two.
Rounding out the Pack was
Aaron Leach who posted an opening round score of four over-par 76. Leach started his round with a birdie at the par-five first hole, but failed to make another birdie on the round. Leach did make fourteen pars and sits in a tie for 87th place prior to round two.
