Haas leaps up the all-time list on day one of the Wolf Pack Classic and Combined Events

Reno, Nev. - Nevada Track and Field opened competition at the Wolf Pack Classic and Combined Events with the pentathlon kicking competition off for the meet. Day one was highlighted by Johanna Haas who set a new #3 all-time point total for the pentathlon. 

Johanna Haas led the way for the Wolf Pack in the first event, the 60m hurdles, running an 8.80 to place third. Alma Kathan was the next best sprinter for the Pack, running an 8.97 to place 5th. Rounding out the group was Hazel Gaspaire in 12th with a time of 9.34.

The high jump section of the pentathlon proved strong for the Pack with Alma Kathan and Johanna Haas both setting personal best marks. Haas took a share of first with a personal best clearance of 1.68m, while Kathan cleared 1.65m to place seventh. Gaspaire joined Haas in a share of first place, clearing 1.68m. Gaspaire neared a clearance of the 1.71m mark but just missed out. 

Shot put followed, with Johanna Haas leading the way for the Pack with a throw of 12.89m to place second. Alma Kathan was next best in ninth with a throw of 10.62m. Hazel Gaspaire rounded out the Pack throws, placing 13th with a throw of 8.89m. 

Long jump was the penultimate event of the pentathlon, with Alma Kathan setting the best mark for the Wolf Pack. Kathan placed fourth with a mark of 5.80m, followed by Johanna Haas in fifth with a mark of 5.52m. Hazel Gaspaire rounded out the group jumping 5.37m, placing eighth, but the best in flight one. 

Rounding out the pentathlon competition was the 800m, where Alma Kathan was the best finisher for the Pack, running a 2:27.20 placing fifth and set a new Nevada #5 pentathlon point total of 3798, a great achievement for the sophomore. Johanna Haas followed in sixth, running a 2:27.39 to set a new Nevada #3 pentathlon point total at 3934, the highest achievement for Haas so far in her collegiate career. Rounding out the 800m runners was Hazel Gaspaire, running a 2:48.88 to place 14th and tenth in the pentathlon overall with 3265 points.
