Palm Springs, Calif. - Nevada Men's Golf opened their spring season, Monday, in Palm Springs, California for the first round of The Prestige hosted by UC Davis and Stanford. It was a tough day one for all competitors, the scoring average for the field in round one was 74.19.
Freshman
Riki Matsumoto continued his solid form from fall season in the opener at The Prestige, shooting an even par round of 72. Matsumoto made a clean two birdies and two bogies on the round and sits in a tie for 22nd heading into round two.
Ben Ortwein posted the next best round for the Pack, posting a five over-par 76, making three bogies and a double on the round. Ortwein will look for more red on the card tomorrow, but will try and keep the par making efforts to a high.
Liam Gobin was the third counting score for the Pack, posting a seven over-par 78. Gobin struggled early on in the round, but fought back strongly posting a back nine of one under-par 35. Gobin will look to keep the bogies off the round tomorrow.
Aaron Leach was the final counting score for the Wolf Pack, posting a round of eight over-par 79. Leach made two bogies on the day but struggled to keep the bogies off the card. He sits in 107th heading into round two and will look to fire up the leaderboard.
Rounding out the Pack starting five was
Jonathan Kim who posted a ten over-par 81, that included one birdie. Kim will look for some more stability on day two to start creeping back up the leaderboard.
Over at the individual tournament at Terra Lago,
Monte Chumchaivate played solid golf, posting a one over-par round of 73, highlighted by two birdies. Chumchaivate sits in a tie for eighth heading into round two.
The Pack will be back in action tomorrow, looking to make their way back up the leaderboard.
