Reno, Nev. - Nevada Track and Field opened competition at the Battle Born Classic, Friday, highlighted by Magdalene George's strong day in the 60m dash. 

Pole vault kicked off competition on day one of the Battle Born Classic, with Alyssa Carson heading the front for the Wolf Pack claiming a share of first place, clearing 3.64m. Carson has been in solid form this season, this being her second win. Adessa Matthews was next best for the Pack, clearing 3.49m to place sixth, Stella White followed, clearing 3.34m to place 8th. Rounding out the Pack vaulters were Natalie Hobbs (3.34m) and Paloma Baumert (3.19m) in 11th and 12th. 

The heats of the 60m hurdles followed, with Johanna Haas the fastest for the Pack, running an 8.57 to qualify for the semi-final in seventh. Alma Kathan ran a personal best 8.84 to place 18th, and Savana Chalmers ran a 9.27 to place 35th. In the semi-final Johanna ran an 8.60 to qualify seventh into the final. Haas then ran strongly in a tightly contested final, eventually placing 8th, matching her time from the prelims of 8.57. 

In the long jump competition, Kaja Maltaric performed very strongly, qualifying for the final with a mark of 5.93m. Maltaric did not improve in the final three jumps, placing fifth, but her mark of 5.93 is the ninth best indoor long jump mark in Nevada history. 

The Pack had two representatives in the 60m dash, Magdalene George and Vivian Groppe, both competing in the same heat. Maggie George ran a 7.43 to qualify in fourth for the semi-final. Maggie George saved arguably her best run for the final, winning the final in a time of 7.36. Back to her winning ways, George's time ranks just outside the top 50 in the NCAA. 

The Pack will return to competition for the second and final day of the Battle Born Classic.
