ABOUT OLE MISS
Ole Miss (0-0) is coming off of a 2025 season in which it went 43-21 and earned the No. 10 overall seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The Rebels hosted the Oxford Regional, where they advanced to the title game before falling to Murray State.
The 2026 Rebels feature the return of this Friday's starting pitcher Hunter Elliott, who went 10-3 with a 2.94 ERA and 102 strikeouts over 85.2 innings a season ago. Saturday starter Cade Townsend moves into the weekend rotation after going 1-0 with a 6.35 ERA over 15 appearances and eight starts.
At the plate, Will Furniss (.305, 62 hits, 12 HR, 47 RBIs) is the Rebels' leading returning hitter while Judd Utermark, who hit a team-best 22 homers with 69 RBIs brings the punch to the lineup.
RARE SEC MEETING FOR THE PACK
This weekend's series at Ole Miss marks Nevada's first visit to an SEC school.
Nevada has played just three times against an SEC school in its history, all coming against Alabama. The first two took place at the 2000 Stanford Regional, where the Crimson Tide won both, first an 8-2 decision in the opening contest then a 6-5 win to eliminate the Wolf Pack.
The third meeting with Alabama came in Frisco, Texas on Leap Day, February 29, 2008. The Pack fell, 7-4, to the Tide that day.
THE GETZELMAN ERA BEGINS
On Dec. 1, 2025, Nevada Athletics announced the promotion of
Jordan Getzelman to Head Coach after Jake McKinley accepted a position as Major League Field Coordinator with the Seattle Mariners.
Getzelman takes over a Nevada team which enters 2026 looking to defend its Mountain West regular season title. He and returning coaching staff members associate head coach/pitching coach
Mark Moriarty, assistant coach/recruiting coordinator
Noah Shackles, and assistant coach
Owen Sharts will oversee a Wolf Pack team which returns all five of its 2025 All-Mountain West selections, including Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-America third baseman
Sean Yamaguchi.
