RENO, Nev. — The University of Nevada debuts its women's basketball team with first-year head coach Kelly Sopak, against Loyola Marymount University on Monday night.

WOLF PACK DEBUT
Nevada will see Sopak in action for his first season as a collegiate coach after a distinguished career in high school and club ball. Alongside Sopak, seven student-athletes will wear silver and blue for the first time, while nine returners round out the roster.

Sopak aims to build a championship culture at Nevada by emphasizing shooting and performing under pressure. Returner Izzy Sullivan will be essential to this plan, as she leads the returners in threes made (21) and field goals made (90) during the 2025-26 season.

LMU SCOUTING
Sopak chose to challenge the team in its debut by opening the season on the road against West Coast Conference regular-season champions LMU. The Lions boasted an overall record of 21-10, and a conference record of 15-3 in the 2025-26 season. LMU returned seven players from last season, while six transfers and one freshman round out the roster.

Returning for the Lions is forward Maya Hernandez. Hernandez earned First Team All-WCC honors last season and finished second on the team in points (441) and rebounds (167).

HISTORY
Nevada has won five of the eight match ups against LMU. Four of those victories came in the 1980s, with the final win taking place last season. The Wolf Pack earned its victory after a second-half surge, led by Sullivan, who finished with 15 points, three rebounds and two assists. Hernandez was critical in keeping the Lions in the game late in the fourth, finishing the competition with 16 points.
