Ramos Honored with Kay Yow Servant Leader Award

RENO, Nev. — The Kay Yow Cancer Fund honors University of Nevada guard Gabby Ramos as a recipient of the Kay Yow Servant Leader Award on Wednesday morning.

The Kay Yow Servant Leader Award recognizes women's basketball student-athletes who lead with purpose, serve with heart, and uplift others on and off the court. Ramos is one of 71 Division I student-athletes to receive this award, with 98 recipients nationwide. The sophomore returner earns this honor due to her community service and leadership both on and off the court. Ramos will receive a special patch for her jersey in recognition of her status as a Kay Yow Servant Leader.

Kay Yow was a legendary coach in women's basketball. She coached the 1988 United States Olympic team to a gold medal and was a Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee. During her illustrious career, Coach Yow fought a 22-year, on-again, off-again battle with breast cancer in the public arena. She hoped to inspire others to make a difference in a fight that impacts each and every one of us – counting on the sports community of coaches, players, officials, and fans to propel the cause.

The Kay Yow Servant Leader Award honors her legacy and the young people who carry the fight against all cancer affecting women forward. Current student-athletes are nominated by their coach because they exemplify Coach Yow's spirit and reflect her resolve, grace, generosity, and servant's heart both on and off the court.

Coach Yow envisioned the Fund as a way to give strength to those affected by cancer, advance research, serve the underserved, and harness the power of community. The Fund has awarded more than $11.3M to positively impact the fight against all cancers affecting women. For more information, visit KayYow.com.

The Wolf Pack opens the 2026-27 season on the road against Loyola Marymount University on Monday evening.
