RENO, Nev. - Nevada Cross Country athletes
Cael Mattioli and
Samantha Tolotti earned Mountain West Cross Country Men's Athlete and Freshmna of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
Tolotti was Nevada's top freshman finisher at the Bronco Invitational, posting a personal-best 6K time of 22:12.2. The mark was the fastest time recorded by a Mountain West freshman at the meet, highlighting a breakthrough performance for the Wolf Pack newcomer.
On the men's side, Mattioli delivered the top performance in the Mountain West last weekend, placing second overall at the Bronco Invitational with a personal-best 8K time of 23:42.2. The performance shattered his previous personal record by more than 30 seconds and helped lead Nevada to a third-place finish in a highly competitive field. His time also stood as the fastest 8K mark recorded by a Mountain West runner during last week.
The honors continue a strong season for Nevada Cross Country, as both runners produced career-best performances in a highly competitive regular-season field. The recognition marks another achievement for the Wolf Pack as the team prepares for the Mountain West Cross Country Championship at home next week.
