Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Wolf Pack kicked off the first day of the Golfweek Fall Challenge hosted by Golfweek with 18 holes today, posting a 279 (-9) to sit in 3rd.
The best performer for the Wolf Pack on day one was junior
Ben Ortwein who posted a four under-par 68 that included five birdies offset by one bogey. Ortwein sits in a tie for 3rd following the first round.
Next best for the Pack was freshman
Riki Matsumoto, representing Nevada for the first time, shooting a three under-par 69. Matsumoto's round included four birdies and one bogey, leaving him in a tie for 11th after round one.
Tied for 25th with rounds of one under-par 71 were
Jonathan Kim and
Supakit (Oak) Seelanagae. Both made a double bogey in round one but made three and four birdies respectively to offset the dropped shots.
Rounding out the Pack starting five was
Liam Gobin, who had things running smoothly all day playing the first 17 holes in two under-par before making an unfortunate triple bogey at the 18th. Gobin will look for a cleaner card tomorrow after making four birdies on the day in round one.
Playing as an individual,
Aaron Leach posted an even-par 72 on day one, making three birdies offset by three bogies. Leach sits in a tie for 36th following round one.
The Pack will be back in action tomorrow for round two, looking to creep nearer to the top of the leaderboard.
