GIRDWOOD, Alaska -Â In a sport where the smallest fractions of a second have the most massive effects, 12-hundredths of a second separated
Iver Walday Naess from a podium finish on Slalom at the RMISA Championships Saturday at Alyeksa Resort, and teammate
Jeger Halbjoerhus missed by just 0.27 of a second.
Naess, who led the field after a first run of 44.57, clocked a 46.05 on his second run to take fifth in a final time of 1:30.62. Halbjoerhus was sixth after a first run of 45.76, then bettered that by just under two seconds (45.01) to take ninth in 1:30.77.
Ryan Herhusky rallied from a first run of 49.36 to blaze to the field's fastest second-run time of 42.85 to take 16th in 1:32.21.
Only two of the four Wolf Pack women to compete finished both runs Saturday. Charlotte Clément came in 16th in 1:44.57, while
Elle Murphy was 22nd in 1:53.85.
In the team standings, Nevada finished eighth with 172 total points. Utah captured the RMISA title with 683 combined points.
The Wolf Pack will now await word on individual qualifiers for the NCAA Skiing Championships, set for March 5-8 in Hanover, N.H. Selections will be announced Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. PT.
