PULLMAN, Wash. - Nevada (7-3) delivered a strong road performance on Sunday, after a dominant second half to secure a 78-64 victory over the Washington State Cougars (3-7) at Beasley Coliseum.
The Pack outscored the Cougars 47-32 in the second half, after improving perimeter shooting and strong rebounding on both ends.
With
Elijah Price leading the defense (three steals and two blocks), the Pack was able to hold the Cougars to a 39.2 percent field goal shooting and 29.2 percent from the three-point line.
Tayshawn Comer led the offense with a season high of 24 points and two assists. Comer was followed by Price with 15 points and eight rebounds,
Chuck Bailey III with 12 points and six rebounds, and
Amire Robinson with a career high also in the double digits with 11 points and two rebounds.
First Half:
The opening 20 minutes featured a tight defensive battle as both teams traded runs and momentum.
Despite being efficient in defense, the Cougars recorded their highest lead of six points in the game.
The Pack responded by matching the Cougars' physicality with Robinson's three-point basket to cut down the deficit to 32-31 going into the locker room.
Second half:
A strong performance by Comer, with 20 points scored in the second half, gave Nevada the lead from the jump.
Nevada's offense improved to 46.9 percent (15-for-32) from the field, 70 percent (7-for-10) from the three-point line, and 100 percent (10-for-10) from free throws to take full control of the game in the second half.
The Pack recorded the largest lead of the game, 17 points (76-for-59) in the 1:30 mark, to close the game with a victory of 78-64 over the Cougars.
