Wolf Pack Sets the Pace at the Phill Hansel Invitational with Record-Breaking Day One

HOUSTON, Texas - The Wolf Pack started off Day One of the Phill Hansel Invitational with a myriad of stellar performances amongst a wide range of swimming and diving programs including universities from the Big12, SEC, the American, and Mountain West.

The first night started off with the 200-freestyle relay which consisted of Moji Pholjamjumrus, Scarlett Ferris, Evie Floate, and Huska Batbayar. The Nevada relay finished 2nd with a time of 1:30.54, making it the 2nd fastest relay in school history.

Following the relays, we had four finalists in the 500-freestyle with freshman Jen Griner, senior Isabelle Gomez, sophomore Keira Allott, and senior Huska Batbayar. Griner, Gomez, and Allott all bettered their prelims swims from the morning with impressive finals races. Batbayar finished 2nd overall with a fantastic race and bettered her time from the morning.

Next up was the 200 IM where the Pack was represented by Sara Mihalic and Moji Pholjamjumrus. Mihalic put in a hard-fought race and finished out the B Final working on some adjustments from the morning. Freshman Pholjamjumrus had a wonderful race in the A Final, finishing with a 1:58.70, making her the 3rd fastest 200 IM performer in school history.

Wrapping up the individual swims for the night was the splash and dash 50-freestyle with two outstanding performances. Evie Floate rounded out a huge win in the B Final with a 22.93, marking a large improvement for the junior from her morning prelims race. Scarlett Ferris claimed her first school record of the evening in the A Final, with a 21.91, making her the first Wolf Pack swimmer to break the 22 second barrier.

On the springboard, Nevada was represented by Senior star Bailey Heydra. Heydra added yet another stellar performance to her list of results from the year with a 1st place finish in a score of 303.45.

Ending the evening for the team were two outstanding 400 medley relay teams. On the B relay was the team of Von Seggern, Kerr, Pholjamjumrus, and Floate. The A relay was the team of Ferris, Mihalic, Vagg, and Batbayar. The A relay was kicked off in record setting fashion with Ferris claiming her second school record of the night in the 100-backstroke in a 51.21, marking not only her personal best and school record but also a Mountain West all-time record!

The Pack is back in action tomorrow morning at 8 am PT!
