This week in Wolf Pack Athletics

RENO, Nev. - Women's soccer goes back on the road for final games before conference play, volleyball travels to Florida for the UCF Tournament, women's swim hosts its Silver and Blue meet and cross country competes at the UC Riverside Invitational.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Wolf Pack will head back on the road for its two final games before the start of conference play. Thursday, Nevada will take on CSU Bakersfield at 7PM. The Roadrunners are coming off a tie with Sacramento State on Sept. 15th. Prior to that, they were on a five-game losing streak. They currently sit at a record of 1-7-1, 1-1-1 at home and 0-6 on the road. Sunday, Nevada will face off with Cal Poly. Much like CSU Bakersfield, the Mustangs are struggling. Cal Poly is currently on a three-game losing streak. Their last loss came on Sept. 15th at TCU, losing 5-1. They have yet to win a game at home, going 0-3-1, with an overall record of 1-5-2. Nevada has a record of 2-5, looking to get back on the winning track this week before turning its attention to league play.

VOLLEYBALL
The Nevada Volleyball team had a stellar performance at the Riverside Classic, going 3-0 and dropping only one set throughout the tournament. The team now holds an impressive 7-2 overall record. Both Carissa Chainey and Kinsley Singleton were named to the All-Tournament team, showcasing their leadership and outstanding contributions on the court. 

 In recognition of their exceptional play, Nevada swept the Mountain West Player of the Week nominations. Bella Snyder won Offensive Player of the Week, while Kinsley Singleton took home both Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors. 

 The Wolf Pack will now head to Orlando, Florida, for their final preseason games. They will face UCF and Maryland in back-to-back matchups before entering conference play.

CROSS COUNTRY
The Nevada Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will be competing in Riverside, California for the UCR Invitational this Saturday, September 21st. The Wolf Pack are coming off a stellar performance at NAU's meet, where both teams placed 2nd in a strong field. The runners will be competing on Saturday morning with athletes in all four races.

The 6K Women Invite will race at 7:15am, the 8K Men Invite at 7:50am, Women Open 5K at 8:25am and Men Open at 8:55am. The Pack will be racing on the UNR Ag Ops Course.

MEN'S GOLF
The Nevada Men's golf team returns to action this week in Sammamish, Washington for The Tindall, hosted by Washington. The Pack will play 36 holes on Monday, Sept. 23, and round out their event with 18 holes on Tuesday, Sept. 24. The Pack are coming off a tough 14th place finish at the Palouse Collegiate in Pullman, but look to bounce back September 23-24.

The Wolf Pack team will face a stacked field, with Oregon, Pepperdine, Washington, San Diego St and Arizona among the participating teams. This is an event that the Wolf Pack have won previously, in 2021 and they will look to recapture the title this week.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Nevada Women's Golf tees off its second tournament of the fall this Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 23-24, heading to Colorado for the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic. The Pack has had recent success at this event over the past few seasons--finishing second at the 2021 edition and capturing the team title in fall 2022.

Victoria Gailey captured medalist honors at the 2022 event, setting Nevada's 54-hole tournament record score of 201 (65-68-68) and finishing at 15-under. In 2021, Leah John and Anitra Khoth tied for third while Gailey's T6 finish gave the Pack three top-10 golfers.

Live scoring and more tournament information will be available closer to Monday's start date.

Mon-Tues, Sept. 23-24 at Ptarmigan Golf Course - Fort Collins, Colo.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Nevada Women's Tennis opens its season in sunny San Diego for the USTA Intecollegiate Championships. The Pack is sending four players, Amahée Charrier, Doga Akyuerk, Silvia Costache, and Wiem Boubaker. 

Akyurek and Boubaker will pair together, taking on San Diego State's Gloria Alogo Piqueras and Liisa Varul. Charrier and Costache make up the second Wolf Pack duo, playing San Jose State's Carla Urchoeguia and Cheuk Ying Shek in the opening round. Both doubles matches begin at 10 a.m.

In the singles draw, Charrier plays San Diego State's Vesa Gjinaj in the round of 32. Akyrek will play Arizona State's Aiya Nupbay, while Boubaker plays Kristina Nordikyan of San Diego. Finally, Costache plays San Diego State's Jo-Yee Chan. Singles matches range from starting at 10:30 a.m. through noon.
