Garwo III, Cobb named to Comeback Player of the Year Watch List

RENO, Nev. - Nevada landed a pair of players to the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year Award preseason watch list, as running back Patrick Garwo III and safety Keyshawn Cobb were tabbed.

Since 2018, the award has recognized college football student-athletes for overcoming injury, illness, or other circumstances.  At the conclusion of each season, in a vote by a panel of college football writers, editors, and sports information directors, three college football student-athletes are honored as Comeback Player of the Year winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.

Each player will make his Wolf Pack debut this fall. Garwo III spent his first five seasons at Boston College, where he was named to the All-ACC Second Team in 2021. Despite battling injuries which limited his playing time over the past two seasons, Garwo rushed for 1,913 yards and 11 touchdowns over his five years (2019-23) with the Eagles, also earning All-New England honors from the New England Football Writers in 2021.

For Garwo, it marks the third preseason watch list to which he has been named ahead of the 2024 campaign. He was previously named to the lists for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.

Cobb will also spend his sixth year at Nevada, coming to Reno after his 2023 season at West Virginia was cut short due to injury. The Warner Robins, Ga., native previous spent the 2022 season at Buffalo, where he started 11 games, paced the team in pass breakups (eight) and forced fumbles (three), while finishing third on the team with 66 tackles, including 6.0 tackles-for-loss and 1.5 sacks. Prior to joining the Bulls, Cobb was named a Junior College All-American while at Northeast Mississippi CC in 2021, making 45 tackles with 3.5 TFL, an interception and two forced fumbles.

Nevada will Launch the Jeff Choate Era Saturday, Aug. 24, when it hosts new ACC member SMU at 5 p.m. at Mackay Stadium. Choate spent the past three seasons (2021-23) as co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach at Texas, helping lead the Longhorns to a Big XII title and College Football Playoff appearance in 2023. Prior to his time in Austin, Choate served as head coach at Montana State from 2016-20, leading the Bobcats to a pair of FCS playoff berths, including a run to the semifinals in 2019.

Nevada Football's "Drive For 25," a message to Wolf Pack fans to get Mackay Stadium to at least 25,000 attendees for the Aug. 24 opener against SMU, continues its push as season ticket prices for 2024 begin for as low as $99 for adults and $60 for children 12 and under. Family 4-PACK's are also available and include four General Admission season tickets and complimentary parking for only $400—a total savings of $200. Three-game mini-plans and single-game tickets for the Wolf Pack's seven-game home slate are also available by visiting MyNevadaTickets.com or by calling (775) 348-PACK.
