RENO, Nev. -Â The Major League Baseball trade deadline has come and gone, and the 11 Nevada Baseball alumni in the various farm systems of the big-league clubs are past the halfway point of their respective campaigns.
Already in 2024 Wolf Pack Baseball has seen one alumnus make his Major League Debut (Trenton Brooks), while more recent alumni such as RHP
Jason Doktorczyk and outfielder
JR Freethy await their assignments after being selected in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.
Below is a look at how Nevada Baseball's alumni is currently faring in the minor leagues.
Blane Abeyta - Hudson Valley Renegades (New York Yankees High-A)
Blane Abeyta opened the 2024 season where he ended 2023, with the New York Yankees' Double-A affiliate, Somerset Patriots of the Eastern League. Standing at 3-6 with 53 strikeouts over 13 starts for the Patriots, Abeyta was sent to the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades on July 2. In five starts with the Renegades, Abeyta has struck out 18 while boasting a 2.00 ERA with a 1-2 record.
Ryan Anderson - Somerset Patriots (New York Yankees Double-A)
Reno native Ryan Anderson entered his second season with the Somerset Patriots of the Double-A Easten League in 2024. Over 19 appearances, Anderson is 1-3 with a 3.38 ERA and 29 strikeouts over 24.0 innings of work.
Trenton Brooks - Sacramento River Cats (San Francisco Giants Triple-A)
Trenton Brooks made his Major League Debut May 28 with the San Francisco Giants, appearing in 12 games before being sent outright back to the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats on July 1. With the River Cats in 2024, Brooks is batting .311 with four homers and 24 RBIs over 56 games.
Matt Clayton - Cedar Rapids Kernels (Minnesota Twins High-A)
Clayton, who signed a deal with the Minnesota Twins in January, was assigned to the organization's Single-A affiliate, the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels of the Florida State League. After batting .280 with five doubles, two homers, and 15 RBIs over 35 games, Clayton was promoted on July 29 to the High-A Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League.
Grant Ford - Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates Double-A)
Ford, a fifth-round draft pick of the Pirates in 2019, began the 2024 campaign where he ended it the year prior, with the Altoona Curve of the Double-A Eastern League. After going 2-1 over 19 relief appearances in 2023, Ford has struck out 28 over 31.2 innings and 22 appearances in 2024, sporting a 1-1 record.
Kade Morris - Lansing Lugnuts (Oakland A's High-A)
Third-round draft pick of the New York Mets in 2023, Morris opened his second season in the organization with the St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League and was promoted to the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones of the South Atlantic League before being traded to the Oakland A's July 30. After striking out 38 over 34.2 innings and posting a 3.63 ERA over seven outings at St. Lucie, Morris went 4-3 over 11 appearances (10 starts) with Brooklyn, with a 3.43 ERA and 57 strikeouts over 57.2 innings. Since joining the A's, Morris has been assigned to the High-A Lansing Lugnets of the Midwest League, but has not yet made a mound appearance.
Dillan Shrum - Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Kansas City Royals Double-A)
Shrum, named to the Mountain West 25th Season Team earlier this spring, began his second season with the Kansas City Royals' Double-A affiliate, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, in 2024. Over 76 games this season, Shrum has hammered 12 home runs, 15 doubles, and driven in 42 runs, marking his third-straight campaign in which he's reached double figures in homers.
Cal Stevenson - Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies Triple-A)
Cal Stevenson, who made his Major League Debut with the Oakland A's in 2022, and played 29 games with the A's and San Francisco Giants over the 2022 and 2023 seasons, is currently in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, playing for the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. In 2024, Stevenson is batting .303 with 19 doubles, seven homers, and 38 RBIs over 86 games.
Peyton Stumbo - Bradenton Marauders (Pittsburgh Pirates Single-A)
Stumbo, taken in the 20th round of the 2023 MLB Draft, began his 2024 campaign with the Bradenton Marauders of the Single-A Florida State League. Stumbo has appeared in 27 games for the Marauders, including three starts, posting a 2-3 record with three saves and 58 strikeouts over 50.2 innings.
Landon Wallace - Tri-City Dust Devils (Los Angeles Angels High-A)
Landon Wallace, who played two seasons at Nevada (2021-22), entered his second season in the Los Angeles Angels organization in 2024. This season, Wallace has seen action at all five levels of the minors, including three games with the Salt Lake City Bees, the Angels' Triple-A affiliate. Wallace has since settled in with the High-A Tri-City Dust Devils of the Northwest League, appearing in 23 games with six doubles, a homer, and 15 RBIs.
Josh Zamora - Beloit Sky Carp (Miami Marlins High-A)
Four-time All-Mountain West selection Josh Zamora is in his third season of pro ball in the Miami Marlins organization in 2024. Zamora, who earned a late-season call-up to the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos in 2023, batting .300 with a homer and five RBIs over 12 games, began 2024 with the High-A Beloit Sky Carp of the Midwest League. Through Aug. 1, Zamora is second in the Midwest League in home runs (17), tied for fourth in RBIs (55), and ninth in hits (88), while batting .265.
