Reno, Nev. - Don Weir Field at Peccole Park

WP: Nicholas Robb (6-2)
LP: Alessandro Castro (3-4)

RENO, Nev. - Nevada's regular season came to a close with an 9-3 loss to GCU Saturday at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

Nevada (24-26) will turn its attention to next week's Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona. The Wolf Pack, seeded fourth, will face No. 5 New Mexico Thursday, May 21 at 6:05 p.m.

Saturday, the Wolf Pack led 1-0 early thanks to a first-inning dropped pop-up by GCU first baseman Cannon Peery but the Lopes (21-30, 11-13 MW) responded with two runs in the second and three in the third to take control with a 5-1 lead.

Mito Perez, who finished the day 3-for-6, drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out single to center off of Alessandro Castro in the second. An inning later, Tanner Johns and Jose Lopez each had an RBI double before Camden Bates capped the frame with a two-out single through the left side.

Johns drove in three runs on two hits for the Lopes while Lopez also had a a three-hit day. For the Pack, Castro fell to 3-4 with the loss, charged with five runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts over five innings.

GCU added three runs in the eighth as Johns' two-run single did the damage.

GCU starter Elijah Higginbottom went four innings, the only earned runs he surrendered being Lee Matsuzaki's two-run homer in the fourth which hugged the right-field line and stayed fair to halve the Pack deficit at 5-3. Nicholas Robb came on to start the fifth and went the next 4.2 innings, striking out four and keeping Nevada off the board to earn his sixth win.

Along with Matsuzaki's homer, Jackson Waller posted his second three-hit game of the series, going 3-for-4.
