RENO, Nev. - GCU's Trevor Schmidt hit a three-run homer in the top of the sixth, putting the Lopes up for good Friday night in a 12-7 win over Nevada at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

Schmidt's homer off of reliever Jordan Giacomini was part of a stretch over which GCU (20-30, 10-13 MW) scored in each of the fifth through ninth frames, overcoming a 7-5 Wolf Pack lead. The Lopes added solo homers from Tanner Johns and Vince Bianchina to extend its lead the rest of the way.

Nevada (24-25, 13-10 MW) overcame an early 5-0 hole in taking its 7-5 lead. Junhyuk Kwon opened Nevada's scoring in the bottom of the second with a 496-foot, two-run homer over the batter's eye in center, then Jackson Waller made it back-to-back with a laser shot to left to make it 5-3. Waller, who finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBIs, struck again in the third with an RBI single to right.

Jacob Doyle then crushed a JT Guerrero offering high and deep to left, the three-run shot putting the Pack up 7-5.

But as GCU mounted its comeback, Wolf Pack bats were silenced by Lopes reliever Garret Ahern. Ahern, who improved to 2-3 with the win, struck out five and allowed just three hits over the final six innings.

Schmidt finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while Mito Perez also had three hits for the Lopes. On the Wolf Pack's side, Kwon was 2-for-4 with two RBIs along with Waller's three-hit day.

For Nevada, Giacomini fell to 3-4, giving up three runs in an inning of work. Eric Valdez was a bright spot from the bullpen, relieving starter Dominic Desch with two out in the second and striking out five while giving up just one run over 3.1 innings.

The teams complete the regular season with Saturday's rubber game at 1:05 p.m.
