RENO, Nev. - Nevada Athletics Director Stephanie Rempe has officially announced a contract extension for Wolf Pack Women's Golf Head Coach Kathleen Takaishi that will keep Takaishi at the helm of the program through the 2027 season.
"We are excited to continue to have Kathleen lead our women's golf program," said Rempe. "For more than a decade, Kathleen has shaped our program into a leader in performance on the course, in the classroom and in the community. Women's golf is coming off one of the most successful seasons in its history and has continued to perform at a high level this year. We look forward to the continued upward momentum under Kathleen's leadership."
Takaishi just completed her 11th season at the helm of the Wolf Pack women's golf program, and she has continued to rewrite the record books as the Head Coach of the program. Takaishi is ecstatic to continue her career with the Pack and maintain the upward trajectory that the program has seen since her arrival.
"First and foremost, I want to say a special thank you to Stephanie Rempe and Merlene Aitken-Smith for the confidence and trust that they have placed in me to lead this program," said Takaishi. "I am incredibly grateful for their outstanding support and for this contract extension. I cannot express how excited I am for the opportunity to continue leading this incredible program. I have been blessed to coach some of the best individual golfers and teams in the history of the Nevada women's golf program during my time here, and I look forward to maintaining the high levels of success that we have had and to continue setting new records. Nevada has truly become a home for me, and there is nowhere else that I would rather be than here in Reno leading this program."
Takaishi just finished her 11th season as the Head Coach of Nevada women's golf, after taking over the reins of the program ahead of the 2013 season.
Takaishi led the Pack to one of the finest seasons in program history last year, as Nevada captured three team titles and senior Victoria Gailey was selected to compete in the NCAA Regional Round as an individual participant, marking the fifth time a Nevada women's golfer qualified for the NCAA Regionals.
Nevada set program records for the best single round score (273, final round of The Clash at Boulder Creek), best 36-hole score (558, Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic), and best 54-hole score (832, Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic). The Pack also set a program record for best yearly scoring average, as Nevada's average scoring mark of 291.36 was the best mark in a single season in program history.
Gailey had a sensational individual season under Takaishi's guidance. In addition to earning a spot in the NCAA Regional Round, Gailey earned All-Mountain West honors, and she set program records for best yearly stroke average (71.64), lowest 18-hole score (65, Ptarmigan Ram Classic), lowest 36-hole score (133, Ptarmigan Ram Classic), and best 54-hole score (201, Ptarmigan Ram Classic).
Nevada just completed another highly successful season in 2023-24, as Takaishi has guided the program to five top-five finishes, and Leah John claimed three individual titles for the Pack.
During her tenure with Nevada thus far, Takaishi has coached five All-Mountain West golfers and three NCAA Regional qualifiers.
The Pack has earned six top-five finishes at the Mountain West Championships under Takaishi, including a runner-up finish in the 2018-19 season. This season, Nevada recorded the best 54-hole score at the Mountain West Championships in program history.
Takaishi returns a plethora of talent next season, and will aim to continue building upon the tremendous success that she has had.
