Trenton Brooks makes MLB debut

RENO, Nev. - Trenton Brooks became the 25th Nevada Baseball alumnus to play in the big leagues Tuesday night, making his Major League debut starting at first base and batting ninth for the San Francisco Giants against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Brooks, who played for the Wolf Pack from 2014-16 and was named the 2015 Mountain West Tony Gwynn Player of the Year, is the fifth Nevada alumnus to make his debut since 2020.

One of the nation's top two-way players over his three seasons at Nevada, Brooks batted .317 with 189 hits, nine homers, 44 doubles, and 119 RBIs, and went 12-7 with 95 strikeouts over 43 mound appearances, including 25 starts, with 135.0 innings of work. In 2015, he batted .365 with 17 doubles and 52 RBIs while going 4-1 with a 3.65 ERA on the mound, helping lead Nevada to its first Mountain West title.

Brooks was selected in the 17th round (512th overall) by Cleveland in the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft. He was in his eighth season in the minors in 2024, and second with the Sacramento Rivercats, the Giants' Triple-A affiliate, when his call-up was announced Tuesday afternoon.

Over his MiLB career, Brooks batted .265 with 67 homers, 161 doubles, and 603 hits. Brooks first reached the Triple-A level in 2021, being called up to the Columbus Clippers (Cleveland) where he also spent the 2022 campaign. After joining the Oakland A's organization, he played 94 games with the Las Vegas Aviators before a trade to the Giants landed him in Sacramento, just two hours from Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.
