RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - Leah John opened the 2024 Mountain West Championships in stellar fashion, carding a 71 (-1) across the first set of 18 holes, placing her in a tie for seventh place on the individual leaderboard after the first day of competition. 

John's exceptional first-round performance led the way for Nevada, and the Pack finished the first round tied for eighth place after recording a score of 300 (+12). 

John had an outstanding first day at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course, particularly on the back nine. The fifth-year senior tallied 13 pars, three birdies, and two bogeys throughout the first round; however, she recorded eight pars and one birdie on the back nine, as her play continued to elevate as the round progressed. John sits just one stroke back from the top-five and four strokes back from the individual leader entering the second round. 

Anna Shultse finished second in the Wolf Pack lineup and tied for 22nd overall after carding a 74 (+2) in the opening round. Shultse had eight pars and four birdies throughout the first round. Similar to John, Shultse elevated her game on the back nine, as the sophomore tallied four pars and three birdies across the second set of nine holes.

Freshman Payton Lovisa had a strong first day for Nevada, recording a score of 76 (+4) to complete the day tied for 29th on the leaderboard. Lovisa posted 12 pars and one birdie during the first round and will aim to have another efficient day for the Pack tomorrow. 

Gabby Kano finished the first round tied for 41st after carding a score of 79 (+7) and Nikki Chindavong rounded out the Wolf Pack lineup, completing the first set of 18 holes in the 45th position on the leaderboard with a score of 81 (+9). 

Nevada will return to the course Tuesday morning for the second round of the 2024 Mountain West Championships.

The second round will once again be available for viewing on GKLive.tv, and live scoring will be provided through Golfstat.com.
