DAVIS, Calif. - Jonathan Kim carded an even-par-72 Friday to open the El Macero Classic in Davis, California, placing him in a tie for second to lead the way for the Nevada Men's Golf team in the first round of the three-day event.
As a team, Nevada completed the day in sixth place in the 18-team field with a score of 303 (+15).
Kim was exceptional on day one for the Pack, recording 10 pars, four birdies, and four bogeys on his way to carding the 72 (E). The freshman was particularly impressive on the back nine, as he tallied five pars, three birdies, and just one bogey over the second set of nine holes. Kim sits just one stroke back from the leader entering the second round Saturday morning.
Coming off the first individual title of his career, the reigning Mountain West Golfer of the Week, Enrique Dimayuga, carded a 75 (+3) on Friday, placing him in a tie for 20th on the individual leaderboard. Dimayuga had nine pars and three birdies throughout the first round.
Supakit (Oak) Seelanagae and Tom Patterson each completed the first day of competition tied for 49th in the field of 104 golfers at +6. Seelanagae had 11 pars and one birdie, while Patterson recorded six pars and four birdies throughout the day.
Liam Gobin rounded out the Wolf Pack lineup, finishing the day tied for 89th with a first-round score of 82 (+10).
Competing as individual participants, Keita Okada concluded the first day of competition tied for 70th on the individual leaderboard at +8, and Alex Maxwell finished tied for 89th at +10.
The Pack will return to the course Saturday morning for the second round of the El Macero Classic.
