Paez Rueda claims third in heptathlon on second day of Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Nevada's Valeria Paez Rueda claimed a third-place overall finish in the heptathlon, seeing new personal records in the javelin throw (33.73m) and in her point total at the conclusion of the event (4,867 pts) Friday afternoon at the SDSU Sports Deck. Paez Rueda put six points on the team scoreboard for the Pack heading into Saturday.
 
Friday morning's events kicked off with the long jump where Paez Rueda placed sixth with a mark of 5.24 meters. Leading into the sixth event of the heptathlon, Paez Rueda sat fourth in the overall standings with 3,659 points.
 
In the javelin throw, Paez Rueda saw a new personal record mark of 33.73 meters, allowing her to place second in the event, giving her 547 points to move into third place in the standings with 4,206 points heading into the 800-meter run.
 
The 800-meter run ended with Paez Rueda finishing seventh with a time of 2:32.55, ultimately allowing for her to keep her third-place spot and finish with 4,867 points in personal record fashion.
 
The Pack will compete Saturday in the bulk of the track and field events, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with javelin. Live results are available through Finished Results and a live stream is available for Saturday's events at Runner Space.
