SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Nevada's multis athlete
Valeria Paez Rueda wrapped the first day of the heptathlon at the Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State, sitting in fifth with 3,033 points through four events.

To start the day, Paez Rueda secured a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.76. This time is just six one-hundredths of a second off her personal best (14.70). Half an hour later, Paez Rueda would reach a new personal record in the high jump, earning third place in the event in a mark of 1.65 meters, besting her previous of 1.64 meters. Her third-place finish would be the highest placement of the day for Paez Rueda through the four events.

In the shot put and 200 meters, Paez Rueda was just off her personal bests in both events. In the shot put, she claimed seventh with a mark of 10.81 meters while in the 200 meters, she finished 11
th with a time of 26.18.
