Walday Naess selected to return to NCAA Championships

RENO, Nev. – Nevada's Iver Walday Naess was selected by the NCAA Skiing Committee to compete at the 2024 NCAA Skiing Championships, held March 3-9 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, announced Tuesday. This marks the second consecutive year Walday Naess was selected to compete at the championships for both alpine events, the giant slalom and slalom.

"I'm proud to have Iver represent Nevada at the 2024 NCAA Skiing Championships," said head coach Cameron Smith. "He has showed his speed in several races this year and I think he just beginning of what he can accomplish on the NCAA circuit. This is just another step to rebuilding the program at Nevada!"

Walday Naess's sixth place at the University of Utah Invitational and 11th place at the University of Colorado's Invitational qualified him for the NCAA Championships. Participants for the championships are selected by a regional basis from two designated regions, the East, and the West, and bids were awarded to those specific regions, determined by the skiing committee.
Naess will look to compete in the alpine events as a part of the West region, which will run Wednesday, March 6 at Steamboat Resort and Friday, March 8 at Howelsen Hill. Wednesday will be the giant slalom competition followed by the slalom event Friday.

In last year's NCAA Championships, Walday Naess secured a top-20 finish in slalom, placing 18th overall and scored 13 points. In giant slalom, his 23rd overall finish in the field gave Nevada eight more points, as Walday Naess finished the championships with 21 total points.
