Paez Rueda moves to eighth all-time highlighting day one of the Mountain West Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N. M. – Nevada's multis duo of Valeria Paez Rueda and Kate Kadrmas followed by Emily Clarke's solo showing in the 5000 meters and the distance medley relay squad opened the first day of the 2024 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships.  Paez Rueda finished with a total of 3,586 points to move to eighth all-time in Nevada school history, besting her previous mark (3,550 pts). Nevada sits in seventh overall in the team standings with five points after the conclusion of day one.
 
Kicking off the day with the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles, Paez Rueda set a new personal record with a mark of 8.95 placing fourth, while Kadrmas finished fifth with a mark of 9.05.
 
Moving on to the high jump, Paez Rueda tied her indoor personal record mark (1.65m) on her third attempt at that height. She missed all three attempts at the next mark (1.68m), ultimately tying for third overall in the event. Kadrmas finished 12th with a mark of 1.53 meters, just off her personal record of 1.56 meters. After the second event of the pentathlon, the Pack women sat in second with 1715 points and 10th with 1555 points. 
 
Kadrmas shined in the shot put, earning a new personal record of 11.79 meters, taking first overall in the event and besting her previous from the UW Preview Invitational in early January. Paez Rueda (9.85m) finished 10th. With three events out of five under their belts, the duo would move on to the last field event of the pentathlon, competing in the long jump. Paez Rueda would finish within the top-10 with a seventh-place finish (5.40m) and Kadrmas in 13th (5.09m).
 
Rounding out the last event of the pentathlon, Paez Rueda secured a seventh-place finish in a new personal record time of 2:31.07, breaking her previous record by three seconds while Kadrmas secured 11th (2:36.90). The duo would finish the day in fifth and eighth place respectively, both earning new personal record point totals in 3,586 points and 3,395 points for Kadrmas.
 
To start off the track events for the weekend, Emily Clarke posted a time of 17:20.18 in the 5000 meters securing a 15th place finish overall. The distance medley relay team of Natalia Martino, Lilly Gregg, Kylee Denver, and Hannah Lee would wrap the first day of the indoor championships for the Pack, placing ninth (12:27.45).
 
The Pack will continue Friday, Feb. 23 for the second day of the Mountain West Indoor Championships. Nevada's first event of the day kicks off at 1:00 p.m. MT with the long jump. Follow along from the Mountain West Championship landing page HERE
