FRESNO, Calif. - Nevada women's basketball returns to Mountain West play and travels to Fresno State for a Wednesday night showdown at 6 p.m. in Fresno, California.
Nevada is currently in fourth place in the Mountain West standings after a pair of home wins against San Diego State and Boise State last week. Junior guard Audrey Roden was named Mountain West Player of the Week while freshman guard Izzy Sullivan came up with her fourth Mountain West Freshman of the Week award this year.
Wednesday's game will be available to watch on the Mountain West Network and available to listen on KPLY 630 AM. Emmy award-winning broadcaster Larry Burnett will be on the radio play-by-play once again for Nevada women's basketball, where fans can also listen online through the Varsity Network.
AWESOME AUDREY
Audrey Roden, a member of the 2021-22 Mountain West All-Freshman Team, picked up her first Mountain West Player of the Week award on Feb. 19. Shooting 51.9 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from 3-point range this past week, Roden came up with a game-ending steal and layup with 12 seconds to go in overtime that helped Nevada defeat Boise State on Feb. 17 in addition to averaging 18 points per game on the week. The two-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete leads Nevada in scoring, assists and steals and is in the top 15 in scoring, rebounding and steals among Mountain West players in conference games. Roden is less than 100 points away from becoming the 15th 1,000 point scorer in Nevada women's basketball history.
INCREDIBLE IZZY
Freshman Izzy Sullivan was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week by the conference for the fourth time in her collegiate career on Feb.19. Leading Nevada in made 3-pointers, Sullivan has the most Freshman of the Week awards by a Nevada player in program history. Sullivan is currently in the top 10 among Mountain West players in made 3-pointers and has registered nine double-digit scoring games in conference play, including a pair of 20-point outings. Sullivan averaged 16 points per game in Nevada's two wins this past week, leading Nevada in scoring with 19 points in the Pack's 68-65 overtime win against Boise State on Feb. 17.
RISING IN THE RANKS
Nevada currently ranks in the top four in the Mountain West in several categories. CLOSE CONTESTS
Even if it's by one point, Nevada has closed out close games this season. The Pack has won five games by three points or less, most recently sweeping a pair of home games against San Diego State on Feb. 14 (72-71) and Boise State in overtime on Feb. 17 (68-65). Nevada has won two out of its three games in overtime and won three games when trailing at halftime.
SCOUTING FRESNO STATE
Fresno State is an already improved team from last year, scoring 66.4 points per game and winning its last two games. The Bulldogs are looking for revenge against Nevada, who knocked Fresno State out of the Mountain West Championships last season with a thrilling overtime win.
Claire Jacobs' younger sister, Mia Jacobs, has been one of the main reasons for Fresno State's early success. Mia Jacobs currently leads the team in scoring (14.2 ppg) and rebounding (7 rpg). She also is among the top of the conference newcomers in scoring and rebounding.
