RENO, Nev. - Riding on a two-game winning streak, Nevada women's basketball hosts Fresno State Saturday in its annual Pride Day game at 1 p.m.
The Pack are coming off a season-high 89 points in a road win at Utah State and are currently tied with Fresno State for third in the Mountain West.
In addition to the usual in-game activities, Nevada women's basketball will be hosting a free postgame basketball clinic (8th grade and under) and team autographs for all fans. Tickets start at just $5 for youth and $7 for adults online, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to
Our Center Reno.
Saturday's game will be available to watch on Nevada Sports Net/Mountain West Network and available to listen on KPLY 630 AM. Emmy award-winning broadcaster Larry Burnett will be on the radio play-by-play once again for Nevada women's basketball, where fans can also listen online through the Varsity Network.
FRIENDLY COMPETITION
After being teammates at La Salle last season, Claire and Mia Jacobs will be facing off as Mountain West rivals for the first time Saturday.
Claire Jacobs, La Salle's leading scorer this past year, has been an added scoring threat for Nevada this season. She has scored 18 points three times this season, most recently doing so Jan. 17 at Utah State. Jacobs knocked in the game-winning shot in overtime with one second left in Nevada's overtime win against Central Arkansas Nov. 25 and forced overtime with a game-tying 3-pointer from NBA range at the buzzer a week later against UCSB Dec. 2. Mia Jacobs is currently leading Fresno State in scoring with just over 13 points per game. Claire and Mia's older sister, Amy, moved onto a professional career in Australia and is currently teammates with former Nevada standout Teige Zeller.
ROAD WARRIORS
Nevada's top performances in the 2023-24 Mountain West season thus far have come away from Reno. The Pack is currently 3-0 on the road in conference play, already passing its road win total from last season. The defense has been the key, holding its opponents to just 52.7 points per game in those contests. Nevada has also had a turnover margin of 8.3 in those games.
EARLY WORK
Nevada has two freshmen in
Dymonique Maxie and
Izzy Sullivan that are climbing the freshmen ranks in the NCAA Era. Maxie needs just three more steals to move into the top 10 for most steals by a Nevada freshman. Maxie needs 30 more steals to claim the Nevada Freshmen Steals Record set by Carissa Meyer (1994-95). Sullivan is currently fourth among Nevada freshmen in the NCAA Era in made 3-pointers in a single season. She needs 20 more to claim the Nevada Freshmen 3-Pointers Record set by current Nevada teammate
Audrey Roden (2021-22).
MILESTONE MARKERS
Nevada has had a trio of Pack players who recently obtained career milestones. Junior guard
Audrey Roden and senior guard
Victoria Davis recently hit the century mark for career steals. Roden (four steals) and Davis (two steals) both obtained their 100th career steals Dec. 21 against BYU. Davis also surpassed the 500 career points mark Jan. 10 against Air Force. Senior forward
Lexie Givens' first rebound of the game Dec. 30 against New Mexico was her 500th career rebound. Roden's first assist of the game Jan. 17 at Utah State gave her 100 career assists. Givens is one steal away from cracking 100 career steals.
SWEET STEALS
Nevada women's basketball has made getting steals and forcing turnovers a part of their early identity. The Pack are currently 11th in the nation and first in the Mountain West in steals, averaging 12.4 steals per game. Nevada is also in the top 20 in the nation in turnover margin with an average of 6.18. The Pack opened the season with 23 steals Nov. 9, the fourth-most by a Wolf Pack squad in a single game in the NCAA Era. They collected 24 steals Dec. 16 against Stanislaus State, the third-most by a Nevada team in a single game in the NCAA Era. Guards
Audrey Roden and
Victoria Davis also obtained the 100 career steals mark earlier this year.
SCOUTING FRESNO STATE
Fresno State is an already improved team from last year, scoring 68.6 points per game and winning three out of its last five contests. The Bulldogs are looking for revenge against Nevada, who knocked Fresno State out of the Mountain West Championships last season with a thrilling overtime win.
Claire Jacobs' younger sister, Mia Jacobs, has been one of the main reasons for Fresno State's early success. Mia Jacobs currently leads the team in scoring (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg). She also is among the top of the conference newcomers in scoring and rebounding.
