Canadian Exhibition Tour: Day 2

LANGLEY TOWNSHIP, British Columbia - The second day for Nevada women's basketball in Canadian territory was another success on Friday.

The Pack won their first exhibition game, they got out of their comfort zone in the high ropes course and they built chemistry both on and off the court.

Nevada prepared for its first Canadian game against Thompson Rivers like a regular season matchup, starting the day with breakfast and a morning shootaround. The Pack's eight newcomers got their first taste of a game day experience and quickly caught up to speed on the routine.

It wasn't all business for Nevada, however.

The team took a pause from its game day routine and took advantage of Trinity Western University's high ropes course with team building through Omada. With the mission of working on communication, leadership, teamwork, trust, planning, risk taking, group goal setting, and adapting to change, Nevada conquered every challenge each course ranging from 30-75 feet presented.

Student-athletes like Kennedy Lee were afraid of heights, but squashed their fear to enjoy the experience. Lee looked a seasoned veteran of the high ropes course, being one of only a handful of Nevada student-athletes to successfully reach the bar jump.

"I felt such a rush and probably wouldn't have jumped without the encouragement of Keke (Kaylee Borden) and the team," Lee said.

After working together to conquer the high ropes courses, the team was locked back into the evening game. The afternoon was completed with a pre-game meal and a review of the scouting report before heading to the gym. Some players, like Claire Jacobs, were so eager to get back out on the court they were getting up shots two hours before tipoff.

Going up against another Pack-themed team in Thompson Rivers, Nevada ended up winning the battle. Nevada hit the ground running on offense and had pressure-packed defense to force turnovers that led to easy baskets. 12 different players scored for Nevada, with five newcomers adding to the points column.

"I was excited to finally get out and play with the team after we put in tons of work during the summer," freshman Izzy Sullivan said. "It was fun to apply everything we learned and I can't wait to keep growing with the team."

Nevada's itinerary Saturday includes visits to Granville Island, Robson Street and Kitsilano Beach. Fans can stay updated by following Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @NevadaWBB.
