RENO, Nev. – Nevada Volleyball's
Gabby McLaughlin is set to represent the Wolf Pack in the 2023 Mountain West Global Challenge from July 18-21, announced by the conference Wednesday.
The trip will last 12 days, beginning in Slovenia with trips to Pula, Croatia and Venice, Italy. Eight out of the 11 teams will be represented this year, led by Utah State's Rob Neilson and San Diego State's Melanie Greene.
"Gabby is about to take advantage of an incredible opportunity," said head coach Lee Nelson. "She's worked hard to put herself in this position, and to be selected to represent the Mountain West to play in Europe is exciting. I'm sure she is going to crush it and create some great memories along the way."
McLaughlin, the outside hitter from Windomar, California, marks the sixth time a player from Nevada has been selected to the roster, the last time being in 2019 when the Mountain West selected
Kayla Afoa and Dalyn Burns. The trip in 2019 was the sixth straight season the Mountain West sent a team to the tournament, ultimately put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coming off a successful freshman campaign, McLaughlin created an impact on the Nevada offense immediately, playing a total of 95 sets throughout the season, recording 306 kills, and led the Pack with 35 service aces. McLaughlin was also named MW Freshman of the Week after helping Nevada sweep the weekend at the Gonzaga Tournament (Sep. 2-3), earning All-Tournament team and MVP recognition, putting up 53 kills, 39 digs, five blocks, and 62.5 points on the week.
