Nevada announces 2023 non-conference soccer schedule

RENO, Nev. - Nevada soccer will travel to four states and play a pair of home matches at Mackay Stadium in the non-conference portion of its 2023 schedule.

The Pack will start the 2023 campaign with five consecutive road matches beginning at Virginia, a 2022 NCAA quarterfinalist. Nevada's home opener at Mackay Stadium will take place Sunday, Sept. 3 against UC Riverside at 1 p.m.

"Our 2023 non-conference schedule is going to give us the best opportunity to prepare for the Mountain West competition," head coach Vanessa Valentine said. "We're excited to play talented competition and several opponents that we have never faced in Nevada soccer history. This will be a great way to kick off this new era of Nevada soccer."

Nevada will play a pair of exhibition matches before the regular season opens. The Pack will face Saint Mary's Monday, Aug. 7 at Lake Tahoe Community College at 1 p.m. and will then travel to Sacramento State Saturday, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m.

The Valentine era will begin Aug. 17 in Charlottesville, Virginia, to take on the Virginia Cavaliers at 4 p.m. Virginia, who finished with an overall record of 16-4-3 in 2022, advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals last season before falling in double overtime to the eventual national champions, UCLA. The match against Virginia will be Nevada's first opponent from a Power 5 conference since 2019 and the first time the Pack will travel to the east coast for a match.

After capping off its trip to the state of Virginia with a match at Richmond (Aug. 20 at 10 a.m.), Nevada will go to the state of Utah for a pair of away matches. Nevada takes on a pair of Western Athletic Conference teams in Southern Utah (Aug. 25) and Utah Tech (Aug. 27). Southern Utah started last season on a five-match winning streak and finished the season 9-6-2 while Utah Tech collected a 10-win season in 2022.

Idaho (Aug. 31 at 6 p.m.), who finished last year with a 12-3-3, will be the final opponent Nevada faces on the road in August. Nevada will play at Mackay Stadium for the first time in the 2023 regular season Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. against UC Riverside.

Nevada's final non-conference trip takes the Pack to Los Angeles, facing Loyola Marymount Sept. 7. The Pack's final non-conference home match will be played Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. against Eastern Washington.
