CLOVIS, Calif. – Nevada track and field concludes the second day of the Outdoor Mountain West Championships with
Camrin Dolcini claiming Nevada's first podium finish of the meet after placing second in the pole vault Friday evening.
"Day two didn't disappoint," said head coach
Shantel Twiggs. "We saw season bests, personal bests, and our top athletes moving on the finals in their respective events.

Rayven Nealey scored points in the long jump. We just continue to move closer to the final day and the goal is to show up and show out."
Picking up where the Pack started Thursday, the heptathletes competed in the final three events to start off Friday morning. In the long jump, Valeria Paez-Rueda saw success in all three of her attempts. She started off with a season best mark in her first jump, tied her personal record mark in her second, and ultimately broke her previous personal record to jump a mark of 5.32 meters, finishing ninth overall in the event.
Johanna Haas finished third in the event with her mark of 5.69 meters, while
Kate Kadrmas improved throughout each attempt, recording a season best mark in her third jump of 5.12 meters.
In javelin, Paez-Rueda shined out of the trio, recording a season best throw with a mark of 32.38 meters, placing eighth overall in the event. Haas' furthest throw came in her third attempt, posting a mark of 37.53 meters to finish in third place, and rounding out the group was Kadrmas, throwing the furthest in her third attempt (29.29m) to finish 11
th. In the final event of the heptathlon, the trio earned seventh, eighth, and 10
th place finishes in the 800 meters. Haas ran a season best time of 2:27.43 with Paez-Rueda finishing just behind her with a new personal record of 2:28.12, breaking her previous record by three seconds. Kadrmas posted a season best run (2:30.55), nearly missing her personal record time by one second.
In overall standings, Haas put five more points on the board for Nevada with her fourth-place finish of 5,207 points, moving to eighth all-time at Nevada and earning a new personal record. Paez-Rueda secured one point for the Pack, finishing in eighth place by four points with a new personal record of 4,846 points. Kadrmas (4,527 points) finished 11
th, recording a new season best to wrap up the heptathlon.
Sarah Marske kicked off a breezy Friday evening in the 100-meter hurdles as the lone wolf in the event, qualifying sixth for the final Saturday night with her time of 14.04.
Simultaneously, the four pole vaulters made up of
Camrin Dolcini,
Samantha Irwin,
Hannah Watson, and
Alyssa Carson all began their run at a chance to score some points for Nevada in the final of the pole vault. Dolcini earned a new personal record with her mark of 4.10 meters, now sitting at second all-time at Nevada in the event and picking up Nevada's first Mountain West medal after claiming second place and scoring eight points. Watson finished 12
th (3.58m), Irwin in 13
th (3.43m), and Carson finished 18
th, seeing a new personal record with her mark of 3.43 meters, besting her previous personal record of 3.18 meters.
The 400-meter dash final will be represented by two of the Pack's members.
Emily Costello and
Annalies Kalma qualified third and sixth for the final Saturday evening, Costello recording a time of 53.94, and Kalma posting a new personal record time of 55.19, the sixth fastest time in Nevada school history. This will be Costello's second final on Saturday after qualifying first overall for the 200-meter dash final Thursday evening. Lilly Gregg finished 11
th in a time of 56.19.
Bonét Henderson qualified ninth for the 100-meter dash final, running a new personal record of 11.83, breaking her previous personal record that she set two weeks ago at the Fresno Invitational. With this time, Henderson has the eighth-fastest mark in Nevada school history.
In long jump,
Rayven Nealey moved on to the final, ultimately placing eighth and earning the Pack one point with her mark of 5.88 meters.
Maria Paz Milani (5.67m) placed 16
th and
Sica Verwasch (5.55m) finished 19
th.
The final event of the day featured
Marije Hijman and Maddy Shipman in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Hijman (10:55.23) finished 12
th and Shipman (11:48.83) finished 15
th.
The Pack wrap day two of the 2023 Outdoor Mountain West Championships in seventh place with 18 points, and will turn their focus to Saturday, the final day of the championships beginning at 3:00 p.m. with the triple jump.
