RENO, Nev. - The Nevada Men's Golf team and Head Coach Trake Carpenter have announced the signing of Supakit (Oak) Seelanagae ahead of the 2023 fall season.
"Oak's competitive resume is a huge addition to our program and will add some experience to a fairly young team," said Carpenter. "Not only is he a top JUCO player in the country, but he has also had success in Division I fields and international events. He is a very level-headed and consistent player who will let his golf do the talking for the Pack. We are excited to welcome him to campus in a few months."Â
Seelanagae is originally from Thailand; but, he will make his way to Reno by way of Dodge City Community College after competing for the Conquistadors during the past two seasons.Â
While at Dodge City, Seelanagae has put together an incredibly impressive junior college career. This season, Seelanagae has finished within the top-13 of all five events that he has competed in, including earning two top-six finishes.Â
He had his best outing of the season at the SCU Invitational, where he carded three consecutive rounds below par, tallying scores of 67 (-5), 67 (-5), and 69 (-3) for a 54-hole score of 203 (-13). The immaculate performance earned him a fifth-place finish in a field of 76 golfers.Â
Seelanagae had his second-best performance of the season at the NJCAA DI National Preview, finishing the event tied for sixth place after shooting a combined 216 (E) over the 54-hole event. Seelanagae started off the well-renowned tournament with back-to-back rounds below par, carding a 71 (-1) in both the first and second round.
At the Kansas State Wildcat Invitational, competing against some of the top Division I programs in the country, Seelanagae claimed a tie for 11th place in a field of 80 golfers. He finished the 54-hole event at even par after recording rounds of 71 (-1), 74 (+2), and 71 (-1).
Competing at another Division I tournament hosted by the University of Omaha, Seelanagae once again had a superb performance, finishing tied for 13th in a field of 93 golfers. He finished the event two shots over par after putting together rounds of 73 (+1), 75 (+3), and 70 (-2).Â
In his freshman season competing for Dodge City, Seelanagae had one of the most impressive seasons in program history, earning a top-20 finish in all 10 events that he competed in throughout the year, including eight top-10 finishes and six top-five finishes.Â
Seelanagae had a sensational postseason run, beginning with a third-place finish at the Jayhawk Conference Championship after shooting a combined 215 (-1) throughout the 54-hole event. Seelanagae then proceeded to claim another third-place finish at the NJCAA Central District Championships, where he carded a three-round score of 219 (+3). Â
Seelanagae closed out the season by achieving a tie for 20th overall at the NJCAA Men's National Championship. He recorded a 72-hole score of 290 (+2) to earn the impressive finish.Â
At the completion of his freshman season, Seelanagae was recognized as a Ping Freshman All-American, in addition to earning First Team All-Conference and First Team All-District III honors.Â
Seelanagae holds an exceptional world ranking of 514 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, and he has been ranked as high as 312th in the world throughout his career.Â
Outside of collegiate competition, Seelanagae has had a multitude of stellar outings on the world amateur circuit.Â
Competing at the Bangchak Open in Thailand this past summer, Seelanagae earned an outright tournament victory after a sensational performance in which he shot 66 (-6), 68 (-4), and 63 (-9), finishing 23 strokes ahead of the next golfer on the final leaderboard. Â
Seelenagae earned three more first-place finishes on the world amateur circuit this past summer, claiming outright victories at the TKG IPGA Championship 2, the Thailand Junior Development Tour #2 Northern Region, and the TGA-SINGHA Junior Ranking #2. Â
Seelenagae has qualified to compete in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship each of the past two years. Â
Seelenagae is currently ranked as the fourth best JUCO golfer in the country, and fellow 2023 signee Liam Gobin is ranked as the 14th best player in the nation, as the Pack is set to bring in two of the top Junior College players in the country this fall. Seelenagae will have two years of eligibility remaining when he joins the Pack. Â
