Nevada in Fourth After Day One of Silicon Valley Showcase

MILLBRAE, Calif. - Victoria Gailey completed 36 holes of play at the Silicon Valley Showcase in a tie for fifth place; Leah John finished close behind her at a tie for 11th; and, Anitra Khoth finished tied for 26th, as the Nevada Women's Golf team sits in fourth place on the leaderboard after day one of the Silicon Valley Showcase. 

The Pack shot a combined 301 (+17) in the first round, followed by a 302 (+18) in the second round, for a 36-hole score of 603 (+35). Nevada will have the opportunity to move up the leaderboard in the final round, as they sit just two strokes behind third place. 

Gailey led the way for Nevada, carding an opening-round 71 (E). Starting on the sixth hole, she began the first round by reeling off 10 consecutive pars before earning a birdie on the par-5 16th hole. Gailey picked up a par on the 17th hole; but, she bogeyed the 18th hole, putting her at even par with just five holes to go. She earned another birdie on the par-4 1st hole and secured back-to-back pars, just before bogeying her second hole of the round. Gailey closed out the first set of 18 holes with a par to record a 71. 

Gailey shot 73 (+2) in the afternoon round, parring 11 holes, while earning a birdie on three holes. She enters the final round tomorrow morning tied for fifth. 

John finished second in the Pack lineup and tied for 11th overall after carding a 54-hole score of 148 (+6). 

John opened up the first round with a birdie on the par-4 8th hole before parring the ninth hole. She bogeyed the 10th hole; but, she earned three straight pars after. John proceeded to bogey the 14th; however, she bounced back, sinking a birdie on the par-5 16th hole. 

Another bogey on the 18th hole put John at one-over par, and she picked up two more birdies and two more bogeys throughout the remainder of the round to finish at one-over-par.

John shot 76 (+5) in the second round after tallying 12 pars and one birdie, and she enters the final round sitting just one shot outside the top-10. 

Khoth recorded a combined score of 154 (+12), placing her in a tie for 26th entering the final round. She carded an opening-round score of 78 (+7) and shot 76 (+5) in the afternoon round. Over the final 18 holes, she put together 11 pars and one birdie. 

Kayla Nocum carded a two-round score of 157 (+15) on Monday. She opened the tournament by recording an 80 (+9) in the morning round, before bouncing back to shoot 77 (+6) in the second round. Nocum had 11 pars and one birdie over the final 18 holes.

Gabby Kano rounded out the Nevada lineup, shooting a combined score of 159 (+17) on Monday. Kano shot 81 (+10) in the first round and 78 (+7) in the second round. 

Competing as an individual participant, Kaitlin Fleiner finished the first day of competition tied for 29th overall after putting together a 36-hole score of 155 (+13). Fleiner shot 78 (+7) in the first round and 77 (+6) in the second round. 

Nevada will close out play at the Silicon Valley Showcase tomorrow morning, with a shotgun start slated to begin at 8:30am.
