LAS VEGAS - Nevada women's basketball junior guard
Alyssa Jimenez has been named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention, the conference announced on Sunday.
The honor marks the second career All-Mountain West award for Jimenez, earning All-Mountain West Defensive Team honors in 2022. Nevada has now had at least one All-Mountain West recipient every year since joining the conference prior to the 2012-13 season.
"Aly has really grown into a go-to player for us and has flourished in that role," head coach Amanda Levens said. "Her improvement every season at Nevada is a testament to how hard she works every day. She is very deserving to be recognized as one of the best players in the Mountain West."
Jimenez led Nevada in scoring (12 points per game), rebounding (6.4 rebounds per game) and assists (40) in conference games. She finished the regular season in the top 10 in the Mountain West in rebounding, free throw percentage (83.6%) and steals (25) in addition to being in the top 20 in scoring and assists in conference games.
The Thornton, Colorado, native collected four double-doubles in Mountain West play, scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds against No. 22/25 UNLV in the regular season finale on Feb. 28. She became the first Nevada player under head coach Amanda Levens to come up with a double-double against a nationally ranked opponent. Recording six double-doubles for the entire 2022-23 season, Jimenez is the first Nevada player to have at least six double-doubles in one year since Terae Briggs in 2018-19.
Jimenez has scored in double-digits in 12 Mountain West games, including two 20-point outings highlighted by a career-high 22 points on Jan. 14 against Utah State. She passed the 500 career point mark on Jan. 21 against Fresno State and has 601 career points heading into the Mountain West Championships.
In addition to Jimenez displaying strong offense, Jimenez became the seventh Nevada player since 2013 to record 100 career steals earlier this season. Blocking 10 shots in conference play, Jimenez is the fourth Nevada player in the last four seasons to record 10 blocked shots in Mountain West play. Jimenez recorded a season-high five steals in two Mountain West games this season and has at least one block and one steal in seven Mountain West games in 2022-23.
Jimenez and the rest of the Nevada women's basketball team will begin the first round of the Mountain West Championships today against Fresno State at 2 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
