RENO, Nev. - Nevada head volleyball coach Lee Nelson announced on Tuesday that 5'11'' Tehya Tasi Maeva and 5"11 Koen Makaula signed a letter of intent to join the Pack.
Tehya Tasi Maeva
Tehya Tasi Maeva is a 5"11 setter from San Diego, Calif. Tasi Maeva comes from a big sports family with multiple Division I and professional experiences. The incoming student-athlete was part of the Cathedral team that was Western League champions in 2021 and 2022, San Diego CIF champions (2021-2022), and was ranked first in the nation in 2022.
Maeva was a multi-sport athlete, as she played travel softball from 2012-2018, club volleyball (2018-2022), and was a high school volleyball varsity player for four years (two years at Scripps Ranch and two years at Cathedral).
Tasi Maeva chose Nevada because "the coaches were so genuine, and they really believed in me even though I changed positions late. The team was welcoming and felt like family. The campus was beautiful, I will experience all four seasons, and it is not far from home."
Koen Makaula
Koen Makaula is a 5"11 middle blocker/opposite from Kailua, Hawaii. Makaula comes from a family of division one athletes. The Hawaii native has three brothers, Kimo, who played football at Washington and Idaho State, while Kaulana, played at USC and Hawaii. Her brother Kona played basketball at Seattle University.
The incoming freshman played in the IHL division, where she lettered in volleyball (2019-2022), basketball (2019-2022/23), and track-and-field (2023). In the 2021-2022 season, Makaula and her volleyball team were conference champions.
Makaula chose Nevada over Georgia, Fordham, Seton Hall, and San Francisco because of the coaching staff, Reno is close, and the city culture reminds her of home.
