Gailey Paces Pack on Day One of Fresno State Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Victoria Gailey led the way for the Nevada Women's Golf team on the first day of action at the Fresno State Classic, completing the first two rounds of tournament play with a combined score of 146 (+2), placing her in a tie for 10th place overall entering the final round.  

Gailey carded an even par 72 over the first 18 holes, accumulating three birdies and 13 pars throughout the round, securing a tie for ninth place on the leaderboard heading into the second round.  

In the second round, Gailey recorded a score of 74 (+2), falling one spot on the leaderboard; but, remaining within the top-10 of the individual standings heading into the final round. Gailey had four birdies and nine pars throughout the second round. She will commence the final round sitting just three strokes back of first place. 

Anitra Khoth finished second in the Wolf Pack lineup and tied for 23rd overall after turning in a 54-hole score of 149 (+5) throughout the day.  

Khoth had an impressive first round, carding a 74 (+2) after tallying 16 pars and just two bogies throughout the round. Khoth proceeded to shoot 75 (+3) over the second 18 holes, earning three birdies and nine pars in the round. 

Kaitlin Fleiner had a consistent day for Nevada, recording back-to-back rounds of 76 (+4) for a 54-hole score of 154 (+8) to finish the day tied for 41st overall.  

Fleiner put together two birdies and 11 pars over the first 18 holes before sinking three birdies and eight pars in the afternoon round.  

Leah John finished the day tied for 56th after turning in a two-round score of 155 (+11). John shot 79 (+7) in the first round before carding a 76 (+4) in the second round.  

She recorded three birdies and nine pars in the first round and tallied 14 pars to just four bogies in the afternoon round. 

Gabby Kano rounded out the Nevada lineup, completing the day tied for 70th after carding a combined score of 158 (+14).  

Kano earned two birdies and 11 pars in the first round on her way to shooting a 77 (+5), before recording a score of 81 (+9) in the second round.  

As a team, Nevada completed the day in ninth place with a two-round score of 600 (+24). The Pack are within two strokes of three teams, as they will have the opportunity to make significant movement up the leaderboard in the final round.  

Competing as individual participants, Kayla Nocum finished the day tied for 10th place and Raesa Sheikh earned a tie for 31st after the first two rounds.  

Nocum had an exceptional first round, carding a 71 (-1), as she entered the afternoon round tied for fourth. Nocum sank three birdies and earned 13 pars throughout the first 18 holes. She shot 75 (+4) in the second round; and, like Gailey, she will commence the final round just three strokes back from first place.  

Sheikh also had an impressive first round performance, recording a score of 74 (+2) after earning 13 pars. She proceeded to card a 77 (+5) in the second round. 

The final round of the 2023 Fresno State Classic is slated for Tuesday morning, with a shotgun start set for 8:30am.
