SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Nevada Women's Golf team completed 18-20 holes of play on the opening day of The Causeway Invitational after weather conditions forced a delay in the early afternoon.
The Pack finished day one of tournament play in 10th place overall after carding a 307 throughout the first 18 holes. Nevada was at even par in the second round when play ended for the day due to darkness.
Victoria Gailey led the way for the Pack, completing the day in a tie for 13th place. Gailey carded a two-over-par 74 in the first round, and she was at even par through two holes in the second round when play was stopped for the day. Gailey recorded two birdies and 12 pars over the first holes.
Leah John finished second in the Wolf Pack lineup after the first day of competition. She shot a 76 (+4) throughout the first 18 holes and did not start her second round before play was stopped for the day. John will enter tomorrow tied for 25th place.
Gabby Kano and Kaitlin Fleiner each finished the day tied for 42nd place. Kano carded a 76 (+4) in the first round, and she was at two-over-par through two holes in the second round. Fleiner recorded a 79 (+7) over the first 18 holes, and she earned a birdie on the first hole that she played in the second round prior to play ending.
Anitra Khoth finished day one in 61st place on the leaderboard. She shot an 80 (+8) in the first round and was one-over-par in the second round through two holes when the day ended.
Competing as individual participants, Raesa Sheikh and Kayla Nocum both had an impressive first day of play. Sheikh finished the day in a tie for 21st on the leaderboard, after carding a 74 (+2) throughout the first 18 holes, and she was one-over-par through two holes in the second round when play ended. Nocum shot a 76 (+4) in the first round and was at +1 through two holes in the second round.
Competition will resume tomorrow morning at 8am, as golfers will complete the second round before playing the third and final round in the afternoon.
