LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Nevada Women's Golf Team finished the first day of competition at The Show at Spanish Trail in fifth place out of 15 teams after shooting a combined 576 (E) over the first two rounds.
Victoria Gailey and Leah John led the way for the Pack throughout the first 36 holes of play, as they each carded a 143 (-1) on the day.
Gailey started off the day by carding a 73 (+1) in the first round. She recorded three birdies and 12 pars over the first 18 holes. In the afternoon round, Gailey carded a two-under-par 70 to move up 12 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 11th place ahead of the final round tomorrow morning. Gailey doubled her birdie count in the afternoon, earning six throughout the round, while also tallying nine pars.Â
John, the 2022 individual champion of The Show at Spanish Trail, also started off her day by shooting a 73 (+1) in the morning round. She tallied three birdies and 12 pars over the first 18 holes. Like Gailey, John had an impressive afternoon round, recording a 70 (-2) to finish at one-under-par through 36 holes. John had three birdies and 14 pars while tallying just one bogie in the second round.
Freshman Gabby Kano finished third in the Nevada lineup for the day, carding back–to-back rounds of 72. Kano had two birdies and 14 pars in the first round, as well as three birdies and 13 pars in the second round. Kano will begin the final round in a tie for 16th overall on the leaderboard.Â
Anitra Khoth recorded a combined score of 151 over the first 36 holes, placing her in a tie for 56th. She had a strong first round, turning in a score of 71 (-1) after earning four birdies and 12 pars. In the afternoon round, Khoth carded an 80 (+8).
Kayla Nocum shot a combined 153 in the first two rounds, and she is currently tied for 65th place. Nocum started off the day by shooting a 78 (+6) in the first round before recording a 75 (+3) in the second round. Nocum picked up three birdies and nine pars in the afternoon round.Â
Competing as an individual, Kaitlin Fleiner recorded back-to-back rounds of 77 on the first day of competition, placing her in a tie for 70th overall entering the final round.
Nevada will return to the course tomorrow morning for the third and final round of The Show at Spanish Trail with a shotgun start set for 8am.
