RENO, Nev. - Following one of the most successful months by an individual golfer in Nevada Women's Golf program history consisting of two titles and five rounds at even par or better, Leah John has been named the Mountain West Women's Golfer of the month for the first time in her career.
John was nothing short of sensational throughout the month of October, commencing the month by earning the second individual title of her career at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational. John started off the event with back-to-back rounds of 73-72, before an incredible final round performance where she carded a 66 (-6) propelled her to the first-place finish. John's final round consisted of 10 pars, seven birdies, and just one bogey, and she concluded the event with a 54-hole score of 211 (-5).
After earning her first victory of the season, John proceed to go back-to-back for the first time in her career, as she turned in a dominant outing less than a week later at the 2023 Golf Iconic Classic, as she set a new career-best 54-hole score by carding a sensational score of 203 (-13) to win the event by three strokes.
John's three-round score of 203 was the second-best 54-hole score in program history. She had a phenomenal start to the tournament, carding an opening-round score of 65 (-7), marking a career-best score, as well as matching the best single-round score in program history. John proceeded to close out the tournament with rounds of 70-68, as she maintained the top spot on the leaderboard throughout the entire event.
John closed out the month of October by earning a T27 finish at the 2023 Rainbow Wahine Invitational, after firing off rounds of 74-73-73=220.
Across nine rounds in October, John compiled an exceptional average score of 70.4. Throughout her two individual titles, the fifth-year senior averaged an outstanding 12.5 pars and four birdies per round, while carding even par or better in five of six rounds.
John and the Pack wrapped up one of the most successful fall seasons in program history at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational last week, as they will now turn their attention to the spring championship season where they will aim to compete for a Mountain West Championship and earn a spot in the NCAA Regionals.
