OAHU, Hawaii - The Nevada Women's Golf team carded an eight-over-par 296 across the first set of 18 holes at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Monday, placing the Pack in fifth place on the team leaderboard following round one.
Nevada was led by Gabby Kano who recorded an even-par 72 for the first round, as she concluded the day tied for 12th out of 95 golfers in the individual standings. Kano has now shot even-par or better in five of the past seven rounds she has played in. The sophomore compiled 14 pars and two birdies throughout the first round.
Leah John and Anna Shultse each shot a 74 (+2) for the first round, placing them in a tie for 23rd on the leaderboard. Both John and Shultse tallied 14 pars and one birdie across the first set of 18 holes.
Making her collegiate debut, freshman Payton Lovisa had a solid performance for the Pack, finishing the day tied for 37th after carding a 76 (+4). Lovisa was particularly impressive over the final nine holes, amassing seven pars and one birdie.
Fellow freshman Nikki Chindavong rounded out the Wolf Pack lineup, recording a 76 (+4) to complete the day tied for 50th, as all five Nevada golfers were in the top-50 following round one. Chindavong tallied eight pars and three birdies throughout the day.
Nevada will return to the course Tuesday for the second round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational with tee times set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
