Pack Tied for Third Entering Final Round of Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational

BOULDER, Colo. - The Nevada Men's Golf team put together back-to-back rounds below par on their first day of competition at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, propelling to a tie for third place in the 17-team field. Nevada carded a 280 (-8) in the first round and a 286 (-2) in the second round, as they enter the final round of play tomorrow at -10.

The Pack sits just one stroke back of second place and eight strokes out from first place, and they will have the opportunity to compete for their first team title of the season tomorrow.

Two Pack golfers are within the top-seven following day one, and all five Nevada golfers are within the top-40 in a field of 100 golfers.

Round One

Nevada opened the day in tremendous fashion, carding an eight-under-par 280 as a team to complete round one in sole possession of second place on the leaderboard. The score of 280 marked the Pack's best single round score since the third round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate last season (Feb. 18, 2023).

Supakit (Oak) Seelanagae and Jonathan Kim led the way for the Pack across the first set of 18 holes, as they each recorded a score of 69 (-3).

Beginning on hole 15, Seelanagae earned a par on the first hole before picking up a bogey on the 16th hole; however, he responded to the bogey in a massive way, earning four pars and three birdies over the next seven holes.

Seelanagae picked up another bogey on the sixth hole; but, he once again responded in an exceptional manner, as he was nearly perfect for the remainder of the round. Over the final eight holes of the first round, Seelanagae tallied two birdies and six pars, concluding the first round at -3.

Kim started off the best round of his young career with a birdie on hole 17. He picked up a bogey on the 18th hole, before proceeding to earn six pars and two birdies across the next eight holes of play. After tallying another bogey on the ninth hole, Kim was immaculate for the remainder of the round, carding five pars and two birdies over the final seven holes to match Seelanagae's score of 69.

Alex Maxwell and Tom Patterson finished two shots behind Seelanagae and Kim throughout the first round, as the pair each recorded first round scores of 71. Maxwell and Patterson each tallied 13 pars and three birdies during their respective rounds.

Keita Okada rounded out the Wolf Pack lineup, carding an even-par 72 for the first round. Beginning on hole 15, Okada started off his day with back-to-back pars before picking up a double bogey on the 17th hole. Okada was tremendous following the double bogey, as the senior recorded 11 pars, three birdies, and just one bogey over the remaining 15 holes.

Round Two

Maxwell was sensational in the second round, matching the third-best single round score of his career with a 69 (-3). Maxwell's stellar performance advanced him 17 spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for seventh place at -4. He tallied nine pars, five birdies, and one eagle on the par-5 second hole throughout the second round.

After carding a 69 in the first round, Kim had another exceptional outing in the second round, recording a 71 (-1). He was incredibly consistent across the second set of 18 holes, tallying 13 pars and three birdies. The freshman will enter the final round tied with Maxwell in seventh place at -4.

Okada put together a second consecutive round of even-par 72 in the afternoon, placing him in a tie for 30th overall at even par heading into the third round. Okada tallied 12 pars and three birdies to card the 72.

Seelanagae recorded a 76 (+4) in the afternoon round, placing him in a tie for 40th on the leaderboard at +1, while Patterson carded a 74 (+2) and is tied with Seelanagae on the leaderboard. Patterson had 11 pars and three birdies in the second round, while Seelanagae tallied seven pars and four birdies.

The Pack will return to the course tomorrow morning for the final round, with a staggered shotgun start set for 6:55 a.m.
